Michael opened the meeting by describing a remake of the technical deep dives and Q&A sessions that had previously been successful for the team. The decision to restart the series came after a workshop proposal was rejected by SC25. The new series will be more public, with announcements reaching a broader community and presentations made publicly available on a new webpage, including recordings and slides. Michael also noted that the term “brown bag” is being phased out in professional environments due to its association with a discriminatory practice, so a new title for the series, such as “technical deep dive presentations,” is being sought.

To improve the format, the team discussed adjusting the meeting structure. They will keep the one-hour slot but aim for 30-minute presentations followed by 30 minutes of Q&A. If more discussion time is needed, a follow-up meeting will be scheduled two weeks later to keep the conversation timely.

A new ODA team webpage is under development by Woong Shin of Oak Ridge, with a proposed domain of hpcoda.org. Michael shared a preview, noting that the page will include meeting minutes, a calendar of events, and a publications section. A key feature will be blog posts, which could serve as a low-barrier way for new members to contribute and would also help with search engine rankings. The website is built on GitHub, making contributions more technical in nature. A participant commented that a data flow diagram on the new site should be updated to include a data fusion or normalization step to more accurately reflect real-world practices. A suggestion was also made to add a link to the EE HPC Working Group on the new webpage to avoid limiting the team’s reach, as the ODA team is part of that group.

Finally, the team discussed the status of their Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) proposal, with a notification date of August 22nd. The BoF’s theme is making operational data more accessible to users and researchers while addressing privacy and security concerns. The meeting concluded with the decision to wait another three weeks before making any final decisions, allowing time for additional data collection.
